Yamaha launches FZ FI at Rs 76250 and FZ-S FI at Rs 78250
Yamaha has launched the updated version of both the FZ and FZ-S with the introduction of the closed loop fuel injection system at an event in New Delhi. The FZ FI Version 2.0 is priced at Rs 76,250 while the FZ-S FI Version 2.0 is priced at Rs 78,250 (ex-showroom New-Delhi). We had informed our readers earlier about this launch. This facelift is pretty mild overall but many elements have been inspired by the concept displayed previously at the Auto Expo in February.
The test mules of the bike were spotted testing several times soon after the wraps were taken off the concept motorcycle at the Auto Expo. The production version gets the air-inlet placed under the fuel tank from the concept bike. In fact, most of the elements are directly carried over from the concept differentiating the new model from the outgoing FZ. The bike gets a new instrument cluster, revised headlamps and clear lens indicators. The regular seats have been replaced by split seats now.
Though the front looks similar to the present FZ, it is the rear profile of the bike which looks different. The rear of the bike has undergone a thorough revision with the change in the design of the tail lamps, the stubby exhaust and registration plate holder. The long rear fender is replaced with a short one and the tyre gets a hugger.
There are not many mechanical changes that the company has made to the motorcycle apart from the introduction of the closed loop fuel injection system. The new Yamaha FZ-S will be powered by the same engine as its predecessor, that is, a 153 cc single-cylinder motor but the company has tweaked the mill to deliver a better fuel efficiency. The engine now produces 13.1bhp of power and 12.8Nm of torque.
The company claims that the new engine is 14 per cent better in terms of fuel economy than the current engine and the emissions have also been reduced. The motorcycle features an eco-indicator as well. The overall weight of the bike is now 132kg because of the lighter chassis and it is said that the bike is the lightest in its class now. There are revisions to the suspension and the bike gets new compound tyres with a different tread pattern.
Yamaha has launched this facelifted model in bright colours and new decals. The new colours of the FZ-S are astral blue, molten orange, moon walk white and cyber green. The FZ-FI comes in two colours- panther black and scorching red. The upgraded motorcycle takes the fight to Honda Trigger, TVS Apache 160 and the upcoming Suzuki Gixxer.
